Welcome to a battle for the bottom of the Big Ten. Despite both teams looking better this year, they have both had gaffes so far that have knocked them to the bottom of the conference right now. It makes this game between the two of them incredibly important to see if Illinois can keep its bowl hopes alive or if Purdue can sneak into a bowl game.

Illinois’s offense should actually show up for once the way it was expected to. The offense is good, but the passing game has been a disappointment relative to expectations. Wes Lunt needs to show up this game at quarterback, or the Fighting Illini will have a bad loss again, only this time it will be based on the team they lose to and not the margin of victory.

Purdue is showing improvement, particularly on defense, in Darrell Hazell’s second year. Its style of play follows Washington’s playbook, which beat Illinois pretty handily. Ball control and an improved defense could be enough to pull of the upset, but the Boilermakers have to find a miracle way to pull off lots of turnovers as well and score.
