Saturday Blitz Week 6 Blitz Points Winners

4. Trae Waynes, Defensive Back, Michigan State Spartans (Defeated Nebraska Cornhuskers 27-22 Saturday)

7 Tackles, 2 Interceptions

You’ve got to love those tough defensive players. Here is another one who made sure to show up Saturday evening as his team played the hottest team in Big Ten football. Trae Waynes stepped up and had 2 huge interceptions against a Nebraska team that could have beaten the Spartans.

Waynes already had a first half interception and cruised with the rest of the Michigan State Spartans to a 27-3 lead. There was no way the Huskers would make a big enough run for a comeback. Except they did, and it was scary. With the Spartans giving up 19 points in the fourth quarter, making the score 27-22, and then having the ball late in the game with a chance to win, it seemed Michigan State would blow another late lead.

But with the Spartans backed up on their own 37-yard line, Waynes came through again. He intercepted a pass by Tommy Armstrong, Jr. at the Michigan State 37-yard line that assured the Spartans a victory. So not only did he have 7 tackles and 2 interceptions, but like Senquez Golson, he had an interception to seal the game.

For being a game changer along with racking up defensive stats, Waynes deserves to be a Blitz Points winner this week.
