Blitz Points: Week 6 College Football Top Performers
Saturday Blitz Week 6 Blitz Points Winners
13. Scooby Wright III, Linebacker, Arizona Wildcats (Defeated Oregon Ducks 31-24 Thursday)
7 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery
Scooby Wright’s numbers are great. But that’s not why he’s on this list He’s here because he made arguably the most crucial play of the weekend for any team. And for that, he is a Blitz Points winner without question.
Make no mistake, Wright is the reason for Arizona’s upset. With Oregon down 31-24 late in the fourth and their Heisman-candidate in quarterback Marcus Mariota leading that high-powered offense down the field, we were sure that Oregon would score to tie the game up. But the linebacker who couldn’t even get an offer from San Diego State burst into the backfield and sacked Mariota, stripping the ball out of his hands and holding onto it coming down.
That gave him a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery all on one play to give him 7 tackles also on the game, and it secured the victory for the Wildcats on the road. The credit for Arizona’s upset largely goes to him, because Mariota likely would have led Oregon down the field otherwise.
For that, Wright is a Blitz Points winner, and a well-deserved one.
