Saturday Blitz Week 6 Big Ten Power Rankings

This was supposed to be Tim Beckman’s year. After taking the Fighting Illini 2-10 in 2012 and 4-8 last year, the team was supposed to show dramatic improvement. By after losing to who was supposed to be by far the worst team in the Big Ten, Illinois is in trouble. Huge trouble.

The Fighting Illini are once again relying heavily on a passing game, and they’re once again completely, how should we say this, defenseless. Wes Lunt had another 300-yard game Sunday, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, but the crew managed to give up 38 points to Purdue. Purdue! This is a team with no talent that wants to rely on ball control and low-scoring games to win. How the heck did you let that happen? It’s embarrassing, and doesn’t bode well for the future.

And speaking of the future, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio State are next up for this team, so making a bowl game looks a heck of a lot harder. Iowa and Penn State at home somehow have to be wins, and then they have to steal a win somewhere else.

Those things all happening look bleak, so this team might be in some trouble.
