Saturday Blitz Week 6 Pac 12 Power Rankings

Mike Leach’s Washington State Cougars this year are Jekyll and Hyde in the worst way. After their first two losses, we were ready to write them off. Then they played Oregon tough and came back to beat Utah, which forced us to give them more respect and believe they had hit their stride. Now, after a loss to Cal, we’re back to wondering what is happening this team.

Of course, the Cougars lost to Cal the way you would expect them to lose: by having quarterback Connor Halliday throw for 734 yards and 6 touchdowns and putting up 59 points, but giving up 60 points. Leave it to Washington State to do that. This is always a problem with Leach’s teams, but this year it’s worse than ever. The passing game is now putting up 523 yards a game, but that’s all we are getting from this team.

Things are looking rough for the Cougars now. Their first two losses to Rutgers and Nevada could end up knocking them out of a bowl game with the rest of their games against teams that will all almost certainly go bowling. Many of them could end up in the Top 25.

Right now, Washington State has not been consistent enough for us to expect them to do anything. So they are no. 11 in our power rankings.
