Saturday Blitz Week 6 Big 12 Power Rankings

3-2 (1-1). Previous: 6th. West Virginia Mountaineers. 6. team. 2391.

West Virginia is only 3-2, but it’s the best 3-2 record you can have. After playing Alabama and Oklahoma tough and beating Maryland in College Park, Dana Holgorsen has a very good football team right now that is leaps and bounds better than last year. This team can compete with anybody in the conference.

Clint Trickett and the loaded West Virginia offensive line are enough to pummel anybody. Trickett is deadly accurate and has an amazing line giving him time to throw the football, and that line has also helped the running game tremendously. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers have an awful rush defense, which by itself cost them the game to Oklahoma and nearly, along with all of their mistakes, cost them the game to Maryland. The defensive line is the biggest question going forward, but there is a lot to be excited about here.

The schedule sets up enough that the Mountaineers should expect at least 6 wins this year, but they could shoot higher. This team is good enough to sneak up on Kansas State or Oklahoma State this year, and it could even steal a victory against TCU or Baylor on a good day.

West Virginia is where the really good teams in the conference start, and the only reason they’re at No. 6 right now is that they don’t have a signature win. That could change very soon.
