The second-ranked Auburn Tigers will hit the road for a huge SEC West match up against the third-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday.
Auburn has been impressive, taking down the LSU Tigers at home 41-7 last week. However, Mississippi State has a couple of nice victories as well. They won at LSU 34-29 and blew out the Texas A&M Aggies 48-31 at home last week.
On Thursday, Gus Malzahn told ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike he believed two SEC teams, perhaps both from the West, would be in the playoff.
“I think there’s going to be good chance there will be two teams from the West, or at least two teams from the SEC, to make the Final Four,” Malzahn told Mike & Mike via Brandon Marcello of AL.com.
The West has three unbeaten teams with Auburn, Missisisppi State and the Ole Miss Rebels and has a one-loss team in the Alabama Crimson Tide that is clearly still in the mix, so Gus Malzahn has a point. However, it also looks like he may be campaigning for a spot in the playoff even after a potential loss.
Auburn and Mississippi State will kick things off from Starkville at 3:30 pm EST Saturday and the game is on CBS.
