Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 7

Georgia Tech finally slipped up. It was a loss enough to knock them from No. 2 to No. 4. They still don’t have any great wins on their resume, and with the lack of a ranked team on the schedule, they’re lucky for us to put them this high. But a close loss to a good team and a 5-1 record shouldn’t knock this team too far down our list. And it didn’t.

The Yellow Jackets simply can’t turn the ball over. As is does every year, the lack of a great passing game finally caught up with them. Justin Thomas was supposed to be better than previous quarterbacks, but 2 interceptions on Saturday and a fumble lost the game. Georgia Tech has to be better with Paul Johnson’s triple option offense if it is going to pull out close wins like games against Duke. The rushing attack and defense are still no problem. But having mistakes made at the quarterback position would cost any team.

At 5-1, the Yellow Jackets still could be a great team even if they aren’t in any playoff race anymore. UNC, Pitt, Virginia, and N.C. State are all winnable games that are up next. If they can pull off those four, even losses to Clemson and Georgia at the end of the season makes this a 9-3 team, which exceeds expectations. And don’t yet count them out against Clemson and Georgia either.

This is still a Top 4 ACC team as of right now.
