Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 7
This was not too tough of a decision. Ole Miss deserves credit for looking great under Hugh Freeze in SEC play, but we had to put them behind Mississippi State right now. They only have two quality wins on their resume right now (although they’re great wins). Still, let’s not take anything away from this team. Being No. 2 in the state of Mississippi right now still means being No. 2 in the country, and the Rebels are in complete control of their own destiny.
This Ole Miss defense is by far looking like the toughest defense in the conference, true to SEC form. It simply shut down Texas A&M’s attack over the weekend, and while a win could have been expected, the pass rush and the playmakers in the Ole Miss secondary led by Senquez Golson and Codry Prewitt are simply remarkable. We have to show this team a lot of love for that defense, and Bo Wallace has proven that he can play consistently at quarterback. That’s a huge deal going forward.
These Rebels can’t relax, though. Tennessee comes to town this week, and while that should be a win, it is followed by a road game against LSU and a home game with Auburn. And of course, you have Arkansas down the road and that expected epic showdown with Mississippi State to end the season.
So things could change in these rankings very quickly for Ole Miss.
