Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 7

Ohio State obviously didn’t do anything to move up for fall down this list by not playing last weekend, and nobody clearly did anything to fall below or jump over them. So we’re keeping them at No. 3 on the list right now. It may seem unfair to put them below Nebraska and Michigan State right now, but they have the worst loss of the three teams, and we can’t ignore that when none of them have an incredibly impressive win yet.

The good news for the Buckeyes is they got another well-timed bye week where J.T. Barrett can improve further, and as he’s improved over the past few weeks, he now has a chance to break out as the Big Ten superstar. Urban Meyer’s squad is still loaded with skill players, and the secondary is starting to get better too. But we’ll believe in the secondary when we see it on a consistent basis, something that hasn’t been the case up to this point.

With Rutgers, Penn State, and Illinois up next, the Buckeyes should be able to get to 7-1 easily en route to an epic showdown with Michigan State in November. But over the course of those games, we’ll be able to find out if this team is a legitimate college football playoff contender or not. We believe they are, but they haven’t really proven it enough yet.

So with that, we’re going to put them at No. 3.
