Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 7

6. team. 2391. . 4-2 (2-1). Previous: 6th. West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia continues to prove they are a legitimate team. Dana Holgorsen has turned around the football team this year, and a road win against Texas Tech proved that. The Mountaineers’ only losses are to Oklahoma and Alabama, far from anything to be ashamed of. And with wins against Maryland and Texas Tech, they have proven they can be a legitimate team and make a case to eventually be in the Top 25 if they keep playing well.

Let’s call it what it is: Clint Trickett is the most accurate quarterback in maybe college football right now. He completes the short balls that are 5 to 20 yards at ease, and it doesn’t hurt that he has a loaded offensive line blocking for him. That line is keeping him from getting touched, and it’s helping the rushing attack. The physicality on defense, though, is still a problem. West Virginia has a very weak rush defense, and that is going to have to show up better if they are to surprise anybody.

And the chances are coming up. Baylor, Oklahoma State, and TCU are the next three games, so this team could fall to 4-5, or it could prove that it belongs in the Top 25. Kansas State is still on the list too. Texas and Iowa State can be the two wins to get the Mountaineers into the postseason, but if they want anything more, they have to pull off an upset.

And that will move them up this list.
