Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 8

The Tennessee Volunteer faithful had hope at the beginning of the year. They were definitely going to turn things around. Now, after frustrating patience to see improvement in Butch Jones’s group, it hasn’t come. And he’s drawing a few critics now. Such a thumping at the hands of Ole Miss doesn’t sit well with too many fans, and coming two weeks after the Florida loss only makes this worse. This team could be in trouble.

Unfortunately, the Vols have a very good defense this year. And they have loaded skill players. But they have a quarterback who is not good at getting rid of the football quickly and a young offensive line that can’t block right now. That’s an awful combination, and it has shown through seven games so far this year. If the line can gain some experience and develop, there is still a chance for this team to turn things around. But it isn’t likely.

Tennessee unfortunately ordered Ole Miss and Alabama from the West, and after the Ole Miss throttle, Bama is next. Put a loss in there. Then they still have to play South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Missouri. Does anybody see the Vols winning any of those games outside of Vanderbilt? It’s possible, but it doesn’t seem likely.

And that’s why we have to keep that next to last on our list.
