Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 8

Perhaps the Missouri Tigers are better than we thought. Unfortunately, they tend to be like one of the two teams that beat them earlier this year: Indiana. Both teams are wildly inconsistent, like on a week to week basis. Last week Missouri looked like a team that could win the SEC East. The Saturday before they looked like Vanderbilt. Which team are you?

The fact is, they’re both. Missouri is a team with a solid pass rush led by Shane Ray, a decent defense overall, great special teams, a decent running attack, and a pathetic passing game with Maty Mauk. So it takes their ability under Gary Pinkel to score off wild plays and drives to win games. That’s the reason for this Jekyll and Hyde team that has managed to get to 5-2 and should be 6-1.

Now, with Vanderbilt and Kentucky up next, the Tigers could easily move to 7-2, and Tennessee is a home game that could make them 8-2. Remember Georgia already has one SEC loss, and Missouri’s two SEC West opponents will be Arkansas and Texas A&M. Could they get to 10-2 and have help from Georgia losing a game to get back to the SEC Championship? Maybe.

They’ve played well enough to at least be in the top half of the conference right now.
