Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 8

It’s kind of hard to make any case for Iowa State being much better than Kansas right now. But at least the Cyclones are actually competing in games. They had really good chances to beat Kansas State and Texas, which would have put this team at 4-3, so we have more faith in these guys than we do in Kansas. But we still can’t ignore the bad loss to North Dakota State to open the season. So this is simply a bad team that isn’t as bad as Kansas.

The Cyclones have a decent passing game and appear to have put everything on their quarterback, Sam B. Richardson, to help them go anywhere. Richardson’s dual-threat abilities are to be commended, but they could still get a heck of a lot more out of the running game. Then there is the defense, which is a joke. It is giving up 35 points per game, and that’s not going to help it throughout the rest of the season.

Fortunately, the Cyclones have at least one winnable game left on the schedule in Kansas. But to make this season respectable, they have to find a way to beat Texas Tech at home, and then to make a bowl they have to pull out two extra wins, which would be a miracle with Oklahoma, TCU, and West Virginia the other remaining games.

In short, this season is a lost cause.
