Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 8

The Oklahoma State Cowboys look like they woke up to reality. This is a much better team than we thought it was going to be at the beginning of the year, and they deserve credit for that, but we can at least knock this team out of elite status or playoff contention. Mike Gundy’s squad is still rebuilding to a point and has some injury issues, and those problems got exposed against TCU.

The Cowboys were rendered useless on offense with Daxx Garman at quarterback Saturday, showing what can happen to them if they play a good defense. That’s not to make an absolute statement, because we saw at the beginning of the year that this team can score on anybody. But it is still inexperienced, and Garman wasn’t supposed to be the starter. That showed on Saturday. Gundy’s offense should still be fine long-term, though.

They have a chance to get back up the Big 12 rankings with a home game against West Virginia Saturday. Texas is at home too. But Baylor, Kansas State, and Oklahoma are still up, and they’re all road games. So Oklahoma State has to be careful not to slip up in games they should win.

And judging by where we have put them, there are hardly any games like that left.
