South Florida Bulls at Cincinnati Bearcats
Friday night’s Cincinnati vs. South Florida match-up features two AAC teams that have a lot of work to do to be able to reach a bowl game this year.
At 3-3, the Cincinnati Bearcats have been a disappointment this year under Tommy Tuberville with a bad blowout loss to Memphis. The passing game for this team has been fine with Gunner Kiel at quarterback, although he is a bit banged up right now. Still the game against South Florida is going to depend on him, because the Bearcats have no defense or running game. And that’s not changing. Cincinnati also needs to avoid turning the ball over, a factor that almost allowed South Florida to beat Maryland earlier in the year.
The Bulls, meanwhile, have nothing good to point to so far this year. Fortunately, they’re only 3-4 and not 0-7 after beating Tulsa, Connecticut, and Western Carolina. Big whoop. All of those teams were bad, and they were one-possession games. The best analysis of South Florida comes with the game they almost had won against Maryland. Clearly the key to victory is making sure they can find a way to force turnovers whenever they’re facing off against a much better team, and that’s going to be the key Friday.
Prediction
Neither team is good, but Cincinnati has at least some talent, and with the Bearcats playing at home, they aren’t going to lose this game. Kiel will make enough plays for the offense to pull out the victory, and he’ll be smart enough to avoid turning the ball over.
