Auburn Tigers Cheap Shot Their Way to Victory Over Ole Miss
Congratulations Auburn. You have proven that if you cheap-shot a player and force a fumble in the process, you can win in football.
The Auburn Tigers beat the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday night after they laid the dirtiest uncalled-for hit you could have possibly laid on Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell as he was diving for the game winning touchdown. As Treadwell was on his way to the end zone, Kris Frost pulled him down by his back, and Jonathan Jones decided to lay a cheap shot helmet to helmet hit on him at the same time.
The result could be a broken leg.
But to add insult to injury, the refs decided to turn what should have been a personal foul penalty on Jones into a fumble on Treadwell and give Auburn the ball back, preserving their 35-31 victory. A dirty, illegal hit by Jonathan Jones secured the Tigers’ victory.
Are they proud of the fact that they had to attempt to break the leg of the other team’s star receiver to get there?
What an embarrassment! How could the refs have missed that call. Here’s the message to every football player out there based on that game: when a receiver is in a defenseless position, do your best to cause permanent injury. You might force a fumble on the illegal hit, and nobody will call the penalty.
What a joke!
Treadwell was in the end zone, and the refs decided to give the ball back to Auburn because of a cheap shot. The way the rest of the game played out doesn’t matter.

Yes, we can point to the fact that Nick Marshall threw for 254 yards and ran for another 50. Sure, we can talk about Bo Wallace finally playing good in the clutch with 340 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions along with another 56 yards on the ground.
And Cameron Artis-Payne and Sammie Coates have turned into superstars for Auburn, while Senquez Golson stepped up again with another interception for Ole Miss.
But none of that mattered in the end. What mattered is that Jonathan Jones had to go out of his way to seriously hurt somebody to win, and the refs let him get away with it. What a joke!
Enjoy your win Auburn. Enjoy the fact that you threatened Laquon Treadwell’s career because that’s what it took to get the victory.
And enjoy the fact that the refs were okay with that.
Alabama should enjoy it too. Somehow, the SEC establishment made sure to put Alabama back in control of its own destiny for an SEC title.
