Blitz Points: All Defense, No Offense Among College Football Top Performers Week 12

Another Saturday of jaw-dropping plays. Another day of upsets. Another day of great finishes. And another day of separation games that made the College Football Playoff picture a little more clear.

We’ll get to that later.

For now, we have to focus on the individuals who had a huge role in shaping the way this past Saturday played out. And here’s a twist this week: only one quarterback earned a spot on our Blitz Points list for college football top performers. At the same time, eight defensive players and a special teams player got on there.

We had 12 Blitz Points earners this week, and only three were offensive players. You have to love that. Guys who step up and make headlines in positions where they’re not expected to is what football should be all about.

That’s not to say that a couple of named positions still weren’t a big deal. A record setting night by one player obviously couldn’t be ignored. But defense was the name of the game for so many teams on Saturday.

Many of these games were team wins, which usually is what comes with a great defensive performance, so it was hard to pick players who stood out. But there were those who racked up the best stats and came through in the crucial moments.

As always, our Blitz Points winners are players who played on winning teams. We don’t judge players by wins, but we can’t give them credit for making an impact on a game if their team loses.
