Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Wisconsin Badgers (Defeated Nebraska Cornhuskers 59-24)

25 Carries for 408 Yards and 4 Touchdowns

Yeah, this one was pretty obvious. As you’ve probably heard a thousand times up to this point, Melvin Gordon broke LaDainian Tomlinson’s rushing record for yards in a game with 408 on Saturday. And he could have added more.

This was a huge game with the Big Ten West on the line, and Nebraska still could have been thinking about a spot in the College Football Playoff. Not anymore.

It was shades of the Big Ten Championship two years ago when Wisconsin ran it all day on Nebraska en route to 70 points. Want to know something funny? Gordon was one of the top rushers that day as well despite only 9 attempts. This time, he got 25 attempts and was able to get to 408 yards. That number is flat-out ridiculous.

Gordon should be at the top of everybody’s Heisman race this week after that performance, and there can be no compromises. Even though Wisconsin isn’t in the national championship race, they are in the race for the Big Ten Championship, and Gordon is doing this with no passing game.

We don’t need to go into too much detail why he’s on this list, though. Just look at his numbers.
