Saturday Blitz Vegas SEC Prediction: Mississippi State Wins 31-14

We know that Mississippi State is going to win this game easily coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide last week. Unfortunately, though, they are going to be under so much pressure to make up for that loss with the knowledge that the College Football Playoff Selection Committee emphasizes style points, and it could be what keeps them from looking as good as they would like.

The Bulldogs will jump out to an early 14-0 lead behind Dak Prescott, but it will be ugly after that. Derek Mason’s team is still bad, but it’s slowly adjusting to that 3-4 defense, and that will give the Bulldogs problems at times as they try to press to pile on as many points as possible.

That will make this game hideous and force us to question even more about the Bulldogs. This is why style points shouldn’t matter one bit. It forces teams to focus on how they play as opposed to just playing to win the game, which is supposed to be the only objective.

The Bulldogs also could get caught looking ahead to the Egg Bowl and thinking about the hope of Alabama getting upset by Auburn. The combination could make this a terribly ugly game, even if Mississippi State pulls out the victory.

But to be fair, regardless of how they look, if conference champions don’t matter, they belong in the Top 4 still until they lose again. They won’t lose on Saturday.
