Saturday Blitz Vegas Big Ten Prediction: Michigan State Wins 21-13

It is a curious thing, but the Penn State Nittany Lions seem like they play the good Big Ten teams extremely tough, particularly at home. Perhaps it’s because of that loud home crowd, James Franklin’s good coaching, and a very solid defense.

As a result, we are picking them to give Michigan State a fight all day on Saturday but still manage to lose.

Penn State simply has no consistency on offense, as Christian Hackenberg can’t manage to put together consecutive good drives. In fact, he has a hard time leading more than two good drives in a game because he can’t handle success anymore than he can handle failure.

But with Michigan State’s balanced, ball-control style of play and Penn State’s tough defense, this game will be a little more low-scoring than would be expected. Connor Cook will throw for 200 yards and a touchdown, while Jeremy Langford just breaks 100 yards. The Spartans are a Top 10-caliber team in the country, and they’ll pull out this win fairly comfortably, but Penn State’s defense will be able to provide a scare for a bit.
