Ohio State Quarterback J.T. Barrett Out for Season With Injury

It has been confirmed. After being carted off the field due to an injury at the start of the fourth quarter against Michigan on Saturday, Ohio State Quarterback J.T. Barrett is now gone for the season after suffering a fractured ankle, according to reports you can see here.

Ohio State was protecting a 28-21 lead against the Wolverines, and it was just a simple running play that Urban Meyer had called. That’s when the injury happened.

See it in slow motion below.

This might be the saddest story of the year in college football. Barrett had turned into the greatest story as a freshman having to replace the injured Braxton Miller and putting his team in the College Football Playoff race as he thrust himself into the Heisman Trophy race.

Now, the Buckeyes are down to their third string quarterback as they get set for the Big Ten Championship and potentially, which is a key word, College Football Playoff games.

But Ohio State made no excuses when Miller went down, and they’re going to have to do the same now. It’s time for sophomore Cardale Jones to step up and start making plays.

On the season, Jones is only 10 of 17 for 118 yards, and that includes 2 of 3 for 7 yards on Saturday, but he does have 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also has 26 carries for 206 yards, including 2 carries for 18 yards on Saturday.

This is his chance to show what he can do, and playing well against Wisconsin would be nothing to look the other way about. It’s also Meyer’s chance to show once again that he can fit any quarterback into his system.

Can Ohio State win with the next guy up mentality? We’ll find out soon.

But it doesn’t change the fact that Barrett’s injury is the worst story in college football this year, especially since his performance might have been the best story up to that point.
