So now we’re down to six.

Only six teams legitimately in the College Football Playoff race are undefeated or have one loss, and Mississippi State’s loss to Ole Miss has dramatically affected our Top 25 picture.

But now, how do we sort out those six? We’ll get to that later.

Going down the list, this week’s Top 25 saw Georgia Tech and Ole Miss jump into our Top 10. We had to give some respect back to the ACC this week after sweeping the SEC East, even if it was against the SEC East.

Ole Miss, meanwhile, has played one of the toughest schedules in the country, and Mississippi State is another major quality win for the program. By the way, they still don’t have any bad losses.

Also, we had to drop Oregon thanks to strength of schedule. We’ll explain that as well.

For the first time all year, we only have one SEC team in our Top 5, and we obviously had no choice. Mississippi State’s loss did that, but the conference is still well-represented overall, with three teams in the Top 10, four in the Top 15, six in the Top 20, and seven in the Top 25.

  • Our Top 25 this week has the same rules as it has every week. These rankings are simply not based on the eye test. They are based on record, schedule strength, head to head, and quality wins and losses up to this point.

None of this is an emotional reaction to a blowout or close win, nor is it based on who is playing better at the time. We have power rankings for that. These rankings are based completely on body of work, the same way the College Football Playoff Selection Committee should do it.

So with one less one-loss Power Five team this week, here are our Top 25 rankings for Week 15 of the college football season.
