College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings: Florida State at No. 4
The College Football Playoff Selection Committee has now proven it has an agenda.
Either that, or the members are way too much of prisoners of the moment and believe far too much in the eye test.
As they released their College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings on Tuesday, Dec. 2, they kept the same Top 4 as last week. But TCU jumped Florida State from No. 4 to No. 3.
We can get down with Florida State not being the top ranked team in the country. But putting them at No. 4? That’s ridiculous.
Sure, they’ve struggled with some bad teams, but last time I checked, TCU struggled with West Virginia and lowly Kansas. Every single team Florida State has been nervous about at a point in the second half is going to a bowl game. Doesn’t that count for anything?
Apparently, the most important thing to the Selection Committee is the eye test, not the body of work. And that is honestly the most dangerous way of thinking one could have. It has also made them throw head-to-head out the window, evidenced by putting TCU at No.3 and Baylor at No. 6. This is a very dangerous precedent to set.

With Alabama at No. 1, Oregon at No. 2, and Ohio State at No. 5, this looks like all four teams in the Top 4 are there to stay unless one of them loses this weekend. The only chance for Ohio State is for TCU to win ugly against Iowa State and Baylor or Ohio State to blow out their ranked opponent Saturday.
Even though TCU is No. 3 in the rankings, it is still very possible for them to fall pretty quickly if they struggle with Iowa State. So they need to stay focused, because if Florida State beats a very good Georgia Tech team, no matter how much they struggle, they won’t drop.
So let’s take a look at the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s Top 25.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
2. Oregon Ducks
3. TCU Horned Frogs
4. Florida State Seminoles
5. Ohio State Buckeyes
6. Baylor Bears
7. Arizona Wildcats
8. Michigan State Spartans
9.Kansas State Wildcats
10. Mississippi State Bulldogs
11. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
12. Ole Miss Rebels
13.Wisconsin Badgers
14. Georgia Bulldogs
15. UCLA Bruins
16. Missouri Tigers
17. Arizona State Sun Devils
18. Clemson Tigers
19. Auburn Tigers
20. Oklahoma Sooners
21. Louisville Cardinals
22. Boise State Broncos
23. Utah Utes
24. LSU Tigers
25. USC Trojans
As it stands, the Arizona Wildcats might have a serious chance at making the College Football Playoff on Saturday. A win against Oregon would obviously vault them to No. 6 at the very least, and they might have a case for moving higher.
Unfortunately, among the other 2-loss teams playing one of the Top 6 teams this week, and there are four others doing that, only Kansas State might have a chance to jump into those rankings. But it would take a win over Baylor and Iowa State upsetting TCU. Georgia Tech at No. 11 and Wisconsin at No. 13 both might have too much of a hill to climb even if they beat Florida State or Ohio State respectively, and Missouri is flat-out being robbed with their No. 16 ranking. Even if they beat Alabama, they have the toughest shot at making the College Football Playoff.
As far as the rest of the Top 25, Louisville and USC have stolen Nebraska and Minnesota’s spots in the Top 25. There is clearly no love for the Big Ten from the Selection Committee, leaving Ohio State out of the Top 4 and these two teams out of the Top 25. It makes no sense, and if you crunch the numbers, the Cornhuskers and Golden Gophers honestly have tougher schedules than the Cardinals and the Trojans.
And the New Year’s Six Bowl Games, on top of the College Football Playoff, appear as if there going to receive visits from Mississippi State, Michigan State, and Ole Miss no matter what. They are in the Top 12 and can’t lose this week.Unless two of the four among Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin and Missouri win, those three teams seem to be a lock.
There’s still one week of football left to be played, and it could be a huge weekend. We’re not done yet.
