New coach. New team. Same Bowl Game. But New Opponent.

The Boise State Broncos channeled their epic Fiesta Bowl win after the 2006 season against the Oklahoma Sooners, when they won off of a Statue of Liberty Play on a two-point conversion in overtime.

Once again in the Fiesta Bowl, this time against the Arizona Wildcats, they called it again in the first half.

  • This time, it was coach Bryan Harsin instead of Chris Petersen calling it. And it wasn’t for the win.

But it was still an incredibly nice play.

The Broncos had the ball up 14-0 on First and 10 when they called this play. Grant Hedrick handed the ball off to Jay Ajayi, and Ajayi ran it in. The touchdown was much tougher than Ian Johnson’s touchdown was in 2006.

But Johnson’s touchdown was much more crucial because if he didn’t score, Oklahoma would have won the game. This one put Boise State up 21-0.

And it might have done wonders for Ajayi’s draft stock, because he looked incredible on that play with a stiff-arm at the end. He fought his way into the end zone for this touchdown.

If anything, this proves that the Boise State football program is not going away with Petersen gone.
