Oregon Ducks End the Jameis Winston Era at Florida State in Embarrassing Fashion 59-20

For a moment in the 3rd quarter, a lot of America was a Jameis Winston fan. It might’ve been the 3rd or 4th turnover in a row, but we as a college football fan felt for the Florida State quarterback. It was a comeuppance of sorts. There would be no comeback on this day. No miraculous drive to keep the Seminoles national championship light aflame. A taste of defeat that Winston had never even come close to dining with was shoved down his throat in such unmerciful portions by the Oregon Ducks that we even felt compelled to turn our eyes. And then it relapsed back to the anger. America wanted this to happen. Jameis Winston’s last game as a college football player will be remembered as a 59-20 beat down and anyone outside the parameters of the state of Florida that calls themselves a college football fan wanted to see this. Even in hindsight, some Florida State fans who are Seminole fans first but grew tired of the antics of Winston in Tallahassee were waiting for this moment to happen, however difficult it must be for them to swallow this defeat. At least now they can concentrate on the future of their beloved football program. Cause for every national championship that Jameis Winston brought to Florida State, he also brought allegations of rape and wrongdoing. For every Heisman Trophy that sits on a Tallahassee campus pedestal in their athletic department that was won on the field by Winston, he also brought the baggage of being a 20 year old idiot off of it, tarnishing the image of the Seminoles that they allowed him to carry on in such a manner.

But the Rose Bowl brought it all down. It would be Jameis Winston’s Waterloo. His Custer at Little Big Horn. And as said before, one couldn’t sit idly by and watch and not feel sorry for the kid. Play after play in that 3rd quarter was so mistake ridden that you wondered if a breakdown was imminent. It was 18-13 at halftime, 45-20 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

So what’s next for Jameis Winston? Baseball in the spring and declaring for the 2015 NFL Draft. Tampa Bay needs a quarterback, as does the Tennessee Titans, both of whom have the 1st and 2nd pick. If Winston declares, he should go 1st or 2nd in the draft. If he doesn’t then all of the misgivings and character issues that followed Jameis Winston these past 2 years, will have been the cause. But NFL teams have teams themselves to police over their players. But does that mean an NFL owner wants to spend the millions it’s going to cost to draft such a Jekyll and Hyde on and off the field, especially considering the nature of what he’s been accused of in the past? At Number One in the draft, Jameis Winston is an asset of the highest caliber, a player that an owner shoulders his franchise on. At late in the 1st or early in the 2nd, just like Johnny Manziel, Winston can be relegated to a clipboard for a season or two in a backup role, which is a shame considering his talent.

But wait, Jameis Winston has hinted around that he might return to Florida State football for 2015. When asked after the Rose Bowl about the NFL Draft, Winston said:

"“I’m not focused on that at all,” Winston said, “I’m looking forward to next season and playing baseball. So I’m just trying to get better every day.”"

Can’t you take a hint Jameis?
