Jamison Crowder/WR/Duke/5’9 175 lbs.
Duke’s best receiver, diminutive Jamison Crowder has a lot to prove this week in Mobile. At 5’9 he’s immediately at a major disadvantage when looked at by NFL Personnel. Crowder was a huge part of a Blue Devil offense that struggled establishing a run game. Although not scoring many Touchdown’s, he caught 85 passes, which was 38 more than the second leading receiver, Issac Blakeney.

Although not as prevalent in the NFL, small receivers have been able to achieve success. Guys like Steve Smith, TY Hilton, and rookie John Brown have overcome their height limitations and flourished in the pros. Out of that crop, I see a lot of John Brown in Crowder. They win in similar ways but yet have some key differences.
The first thing you’ll notice about Crowder is he usually makes a stutter step right off the line. He has great straight line speed and usually is able to beat the corner on go routes. His most attractive feature is his ability to be patient, concentrate, and keep himself in a balanced position when trying to grab deep balls (see below). This was depicted well in his three score game against Pittsburgh. While not as flashy as Brown, he is also very elusive in the open field.
NFL Draft Projection
Unless someone falls in love with Crowder like the Cards did with Brown, I don’t see him going until the 5th round.
Possible Landing Spots
Cincinnati Bengals
With former first round pick Tyler Eifert and Marvin Jones coming back from injury, a player like Crowder isn’t a necessity in the Bengals offense. Nevertheless, adding a weapon in the slot with all the talent at skill positions in Cincy won’t hurt. If Crowder can mirror John Brown’s production in his rookie campaign, the Bengals offense will be very dangerous.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have one of the best receiving tandems in football, but they are missing a key slot receiver. Soon to be Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan utilized undersized slot guy Andrew Hawkins perfectly for his most productive season in his four year career. Crowder would fit perfectly in the Falcons offense.
