Breakfast Blitz: College Football News for Friday, Jan. 23: Ole Miss Arrests, UNC Lawsuits, More Coaching Changes

Two Ole Miss Rebels players were arrested in Oxford, according to The Clarion Ledger online.

"Safety Trae Elston and wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow were both arrested shortly after midnight today and charged with disorderly conduct, according to the Lafayette County Detention Center’s booking log.Elston was also charged with resisting arrest.The arrests stemmed from a fight outside The Lyric, a popular bar and music venue on Oxford’s Square, the Oxford Police Department confirmed."

Two former University of North Carolina athletes, including a football player, filed a lawsuit Thursday against the NCAA and the university regarding the academic scandal facing UNC athletics, according to multiple reports, including USA Today.

"The suit, which seeks to become a class action, was filed in a North Carolina state court on behalf of women’s basketball player Rashanda McCants and football player Devon Ramsay by lawyers from Hausfeld LLP the same firm that is pursuing the Ed O’Bannon antitrust case against the NCAA concerning the use of college athletes’ names, images and likenesses.Rashanda McCants is the younger sister of former North Carolina men’s basketball player Rashad McCants."

Former Oklahoma Sooners All-American and National Championship winning quarterback and co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel is expected to become the Utah State Aggies offensive coordinator, according to Sports Illustrated.

"Heupel, 36, was let go from Oklahoma earlier this month after spending nine seasons there as an assistant, the last four as the play-caller. Under him the Sooners ranked in the FBS’ top 20 in scoring offense in three of the last four seasons, including 20th this fall with an average of 36.4 points per game.Entering the Sooners’ regular-season finale on Dec. 6, Heupel ranked fourth over the last four years in points per game (37.4)."

Tennessee Offensive Coordinator Mike Bajakian has been hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to become their quarterbacks coach, according to the Tampa Tribune.

"Bajakian spent the past two seasons as offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee, where he also mentored quarterbacks under coach Butch Jones.Tampa Bay ranked 25th in passing, 29th in points scored and 30th in total offense while stumbling to a 2-14 record last season."

Central Michigan Head Coach Dan Enos has resigned to be the offensive coordinator at Arkansas, according to multiple reports, including SI.com.

"Enos informed his team of the move at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.Enos went 26-36 in five years at Central Michigan, reaching bowl games in two of the past three seasons. The Chippewas lost to Western Kentucky 49-48 in the Bahamas Bowl on Christmas Eve.Enos replaces Jim Chaney, who left Arkansas to become the coordinator for Pat Narduzzi at Pittsburgh."

Former Nebraska Assistant Coach Ron Brown will join Bo Pelini’s staff at Youngstown State, according to Omaha.com.

"Brown, 58, said Pelini offered him a spot on the YSU staff shortly after he was named head coach in mid-December. Brown first wanted to meet with Mike Riley — hired as NU head coach to replace Pelini — and help get the Huskers through the Holiday Bowl.“I didn’t know what was going to take place when Bo left,” Brown said from Youngstown, Ohio. “I didn’t know, and I think that’s always a question on an assistant coach’s mind: Will I be retained? Do I want to be retained?”"
