2. Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh
This was the toughest decision to make. Revis may well be the best corner, and even defensive player (other than JJ Watt) in football today. The skills that Revis possesses seem to make him even more valuable in what today’s NFL has become, which is the ultimate passing league and a glorified seven-on-seven. If you are not familiar with the seven- on-seven term, it basically is a center, quarterback and all skill position players (WRs,TEs, RBs, CBs, Safeties) that play against each other with no offensive or defensive lineman or linebackers.
The best asset Revis possesses besides his professionalism and work ethic, is his ability to take away receivers and get physical with them, but also doing so without being flagged. Revis can cover any player in any formation, even spending time covering Gronkowski in practice for the Patriots. Revis also is very dependable in the run game and a solid tackler who isn’t afraid to throw his body in the pile or at a running back on run support.
There are very few questions with the game Revis plays and his reputation is absolutely deserved, as he has the ball skills to go with his impact ability at corner.
Looking ahead to the Super Bowl I wouldn’t be surprised to see Revis on Doug Baldwin in the slot, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him get some play against Jermaine Kearse. After all Revis can do it all.
