8. Geno Auriemma, Connecticut Huskies, 1985-Present, Women’s College Basketball

Record: 895-134

9 National Championships

19 Conference Tournament Championships (18 Big East, 1 AAC) and 20 Regular Season Conference Championships (19 Big East, 1 AAC)

What Geno Auriemma has done at UCONN for the women’s basketball program has been phenomenal. It’s not just the pace to 1,000 wins and the 9 national championships. Those speak for themselves.

Auriemma has five undefeated seasons and has turned out a ton of WNBA superstars. He has also done the unthinkable in women’s college basketball: overtake Tennessee as the most dominant program in the sport.

UCONN’s success, particularly since 1993, is unprecedented in the sport. And Auriemma is obviously the reason for that.

He also helped spark major interest in women’s college basketball by forging an epic Laker-Celtics type rivalry with Tennessee to the point that when the schools finally stopped playing, interest in the sport had already skyrocketed.

The scary thing is Auriemma’s career looks like it’s only getting better. He may not have it off the ground just yet.

Could another three-peat be in the works this year? That would be two. And it would be even more unprecedented.
