5. Texas Longhorns

A magical two-year run led by Vince Young and two solid seasons during Colt McCoy’s final two years are the only thing keeping the Texas Longhorns from being much higher on this list. Honestly, with the way they have been owned by Oklahoma since 2002 and the fact that they only have two Big 12 titles, they should be.

Mack Brown consistently underachieved with his recruiting classes, which were almost always in the Top 10 if not the Top 5. All he had to do was close off the state of Texas. But Chris Simms could not handle pressure and would get blown out against Oklahoma.

And if the Longhorns did not lose to the Sooners, they would manage to screw themselves up elsewhere against far mediocre talent, such Texas Tech in 2008.

Because of Texas’s national championship in 2005 and title appearance in 2009, it is easy to make a case for the Oklahoma Sooners being at this spot. But with the way Texas has recruited, it just seems like the Longhorns have left a lot out on the field over the past 10 years.
