5. Bruce Smith, DE, Virginia Tech

Bruce Smith was as dominant a defensive end that you will ever see. Smith was a ruthless pass rusher, a sturdy run defender and as an intimidating end of the line presence you will ever see on the football field. Smith played most of  his 19 seasons in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills with his last four years in the NFL coming as a member of the Washington Redskins.

Scheming for Smith was close to an impossible task as he was not relegated to just end of the line defensive end, he would also rush from the inside and destroy the guards and centers too. For some of the newer fans of the NFL, they will never really know how dominant Smith was, and the edge he gave the Bills.

However he will be remembered as a Hall of Fame defensive end who has most sacks in NFL history, with 200 sacks over his 19 year career. This amounts to an average of just over 10 sacks per season. In his career Smith broke double digit sacks in 13 of his 19 campaigns, including a ridiculous streak of seven seasons in a row and 13 of 15 seasons.

To give people an idea of how dominant Smith was, on the field his 200 career sacks are 58.5 more than Michael Strahan, 60.5 more than Jason Taylor, and 88.5 more than Dwight Freeney.
