2. Games Between Ranked Teams Matter in College Football More than College Basketball

There are three games among ranked teams happening in college basketball this week, and they are all on Saturday. But if you were forced to name the teams without doing any research, could you?

Of course not. Know why? Because nobody cares about regular season games among ranked teams in college basketball. They are both likely going to the NCAA tournament, so why does it matter?

Nobody remembers anything in college basketball but NCAA Tournament. But everybody remembers the 2013 REGULAR SEASON Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn.

In college football, every game among ranked teams is a big deal, and it is hell to figure out which game should be the game of the week each week. For college basketball, the goal is to figure out which game people outside of the two teams involved might have a respected interest.

Last year, when No. 13 ranked Ohio State played No. 7 ranked Michigan State, we all knew College Gameday would be there, and we all wanted to watch that game. We set aside time in our Saturday to watch it.

But if Nothern Iowa and Arizona, who are No. 13 and No. 7 in the AP Poll respectively, played, or if Wichita State, who is No. 13 in the USA Today poll, played Arizona, would you sit down to watch it? Maybe if it’s on.

But it won’t be a big deal, and don’t try to lie and pretend it would be. Kentucky could play Duke, and the guy who is a college basketball lover but not a fan of either team will casually watch.

And the top reason is a cause for the lack of care about games between ranked teams in college basketball…
