9. P.J. Williams, Cornerback, Florida State Seminoles

On pure speed and agility, P.J. Williams does not really need to worry about what will happen at the NFL Combine. Even if he underperforms, we’ll chalk it up to a bad day knowing how good he really is.

But the cornerback position requires a lot more patience and anticipation on top of athleticism, and fortunately, the combine can measure that pretty well. Williams over-pursues a lot, so he needs to perform well in the shuttles and position drills to prove how well he can recover and how patient he can be.

Williams’s game tape is hard to measure as well because not a lot of people threw his way this past year, as he only had 1 interception, so the combine will give a better read than normal.

Historically, this is one of those positions where raw physical skill can get you pretty far, but you have to be able to minimize your mistakes here as well. Williams’s tendency to go 100 percent all the time causes him to overrun plays and make critical mistakes sometimes, so if he can’t show that he is getting better at that or at least is not athletic enough to recover quickly from that, his stock could fall.
