4. Devin Funchess, Tight End, Michigan Wolverines

Possibly the best tight end in this draft, Devin Funchess has to meet the minimum expectations to gain the respect of NFL Scouts at the combine. Funchess is lauded for his physical abilities alone, so if those don’t come through, he is in trouble.

At 6’5″ 230 pounds, Funchess, who drops lots of passes and gets beat by smaller guys often in a fight for balls, has got to show that he at least has physical abilities you can’t pass up. This guy is drawing hype for his ups and his speed, which probably played a role in his 62 receptions this past year. But he’s got to show that potential, and his 40-time, vertical jump, and broad jump had all better back that up.

If Funchess has a bad combine, he will have a hard time selling why he is worth drafting to begin with because he is simply a raw player. The guy needs to show his strength in the weight room as well to prove he can lock when needed and that, when coached up, he’ll be able to start winning more physical battles.

The tight end is a position that can be evaluated often through the combine, and Funchess is one who has lots of questions to answer. But before we can even ask those questions, he has to pass a combine test to show he’s worth it.

Here is his chance.
