Yes, there are indeed some players whose NFL Combine will matter when determining their draft stock. But there are lots of players where the combine means absolutely nothing, and in many cases, it is simply because of the position they play.

Right now, we are seriously debating the draft stock of plenty of players, as we should, and for some of them, the NFL Combine could make things more clear. But let’s not forget that guys, especially quarterbacks, in the past have had amazing combines and turned out to be complete NFL Busts. They are not as much of a joke as pro-days are, but for some players they still do mean absolutely nothing.

These players about to be mentioned are in the category of players who have absolutely nothing to prove at the NFL Combine and should have absolutely nothing to gain. Their performances are no barometer of how successful they will be in the NFL.

This is not to completely dismiss the combine, to be fair. But it is to say that we might overhype it just a little bit, and there are quite a few highly ranked players where you should just plug in the tape and take a look at their performance on the field.
