Miami Hurricanes-Lil Wayne

The Florida schools benefitted heavily from a growing recruiting base in the state as people moved there. The southern rappers benefitted heavily from a growing base of record companies spouting up there after the deaths of Tupac and Biggie.

Miami and Lil Wayne were major beneficiaries of the respective events. Both have achieved major success, with the Hurricanes dominating the college football world at times and Wayne dominating the rap game from 2005 to about 2010.

Both are glamorous, who have sold style and hype over substance for a while as well. And both have managed to reinvent themselves. Miami went from the Howard Schnellenberger all-business approach to the Jimmy Johnson glamorous approach to the Dennis Erickson regular NFL approach to the Butch Davis and Larry Coker no discipline approach.

Lil Wayne went from the Cash Money bounce music New Orleans sounding rapper to having more of a gangsta approach in the early 2000s to becoming an amazing freestyler.

Unfortunately, both have now reinvented themselves in a bad way. Miami became the all style and no substance, no longer winning ever, and Lil Wayne took on the worst form with his auto-tune, “YOUNG MULA BABY!!!” teeny bopper sound.

It’s a question if either will be able to come back.
