BYU Cougars-Vanilla Ice

Let’s get the one inexplicable out of the way. The BYU Cougars had absolutely no business winning the national championship in 1984. And Vanilla Ice had no business being even semi-relevant in 1990 and 1991.

Seriously, how on Earth could either have been taken as legitimate? The Cougars played in a gimmicky system that exploited slow, weak defenses en route to a national championship season that made people believe they were on the way to becoming an elite program.

And Vanilla Ice sampled David Bowie for “Ice Ice Baby” while lying about his background as some tough guy to get famous while being a terrible rapper on top of it. He was no more than a gimmick either.

Either way, both are irrelevant, but the comical nature of them could not be ignored in an article like this.

Let’s go to another program.
