5. Marcus Lewis, Florida State, 6’2’’ 187 lbs.

Lewis once again adds to another talented Florida State class that features a number of high end defensive backs (more on them later on). Lewis has good size for a safety in today’s game, but still could use some more bulk to add a more intimidating presence in the defensive backfield.

As a safety Lewis plays with very good instincts and should be able to come in and play right away for Coach Jimbo Fisher. He is not afraid to play against the run and is one of the better prospects in the country at shedding blockers to make the tackle. I also love that Lewis can play a physical brand of corner (think a smaller Brandon Browner).

The negatives are however that he does not have very good lateral quickness which will limit his ceiling and will cause him to have to use a strong football intellect to make plays that he may not be able to get to athletically.

Overall Lewis is a very solid safety prospect, who may or may not have an NFL future depending on how he can improve his quickness and build mass.
