2. Nebraska Cornhuskers, 1994-1997

Talk about dominance in the modern age of college football.

After coming close for so many years, there were questions as to whether or not Tom Osrborne would ever be able to knock down that door and finally get that ever-elusive national championship after more than 20 years of coaching.

Then came unprecedented dominance for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, which started with Tommy Frazier at quarterback in 1994 and 1995 and finished with Scott Frost and Ahman Green in 1997. This resulted in national championships all three of those years and an 11-2 record in 1996.

What is most impressive about this run is that all three national championships were undefeated seasons for Nebraska, as they went 13-0 in 1994, 12-0 in 1995, and 13-0 in 1997. Unlike Alabama, Osborne never had to lobby for the national championship and be given the chance after a loss. His team didn’t let it get to that.

On top of that, the Huskers had a chance to play for the national championship again in 1996 but blew it in the Big 12 Championship game with a fluke loss to Texas.

Still, Nebraska went 49-2 during this period. Do we need to say anything else?
