This is the final exception to what the general rule of college football dynasties should be. They should at least be after the AP Poll era, and they should involve at least three national championships.

But what Bobby Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles did during this 14-year run may never again be matched in college football history. Posting 14 straight Top 5 finishes, two national championships, and 11 bowl wins is likely a feat that will never be matched. Can we also mention that their three bowl losses were all in games that were being played for the national championship?

The program never had a down spell during this period, which is unprecedented, and then the Seminoles entered the ACC in 1992 and won the conference their first nine years there.

Okay, so they lose points for the fact that they could have joined the SEC and punked out, and they played in the worst elite college football conference. But for the most part during this time the Seminoles always played elite teams in bowl games while also playing Florida and Miami, who were both powerhouse programs for the better part of this period. They also would usually play another elite team out of conference, and there were usually one or two other powerhouse teams in the ACC, so there were plenty of opportunities to lose each year.

But FSU never had more than 2 losses during this run. That’s an amazing accomplishment, and for that it belongs on this list as a dynasty in its own way.
