It does not matter what period of college football you are talking about, but especially since the AP Poll era began, if a school produces three straight undefeated seasons, two straight Heisman Trophy winners, and three straight national championships during any three-year period, that school gets to lay claim to having one of the greatest college football dynasties.

Coach Earl Blaik led the team at this time, and they went 9-0, 9-0, and 9-0-1 in 1944, 1945, and 1946 respectively. Fullback Doc Blanchard became the first junior to win the Heisman Trophy in 1945 and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the third pick in 1946, and halfback Glenn Davis was the second pick in the 1950 NFL Draft after winning the Heisman Trophy in 1946.

There was also a 25-game winning streak during this period ended by Notre Dame in 1946, but more on that later.

Sure, the era of college football is different now, but nobody can deny what Army did during this period, and an argument could be made that the dynasty stretched to 1950 with the school going 8-0-1 in 1948, 9-0 in 1949, and 8-1 in 1950.

But there was no championship recognized during this time, and the 5-2-2 1947 record is kind of an end to any dynasty. That can’t be in there.

Still, this is an impressive run nonetheless.
