Biggest Question: Who will step up to fill open spots on the offensive line?
Lots of people in Iowa are thinking that Kirk Ferentz’s time should be up and they need to go in a different direction. The translation for that is they are tired of playing old-school football and simply being mediocre with it.
Ferentz listened by shaking up the coaching staff, but let’s call it what it is: Iowa is always supposed to be a program built around toughness and great offensive linemen, even if they change their style a bit. And this year, with three starters from the line gone, including superstar tackle and Outland Trophy winner Brandon Scherff.
That is the biggest question facing the Hawkeyes this spring. Can they find a few more of those corn fed tough guys to take over the line? This is the question that will face the team this spring.
After getting dismantled by the Tennessee Volunteers in the TaxSlayer Bowl this past season, getting some quickness and more talent overall in the program is obviously a big deal.
But while doing that, if Iowa falls apart on the offensive line, the program could fall off the face of the Earth. The o-line dominance can never change.
