Every year there are teams that have position battles due to dismissals, development of players, suspensions, matchups and conditioning among other things. These position battles are often the best case scenario for teams. While some may argue that having a position battle means that the position has some uncertainty to it, I would say competition is a good thing.

In most cases competition means that you have more than one person you feel is capable of getting the job done, and the aforementioned competition will usually bring out the best of the players. Sometimes it even brings things to light about that player that makes them a very appealing option at that position, in a rotation at that grouping or at another position.

Position battles are coaches best friend. The battles make players accountable, keeps them on their toes and most importantly keeps them motivated. This is especially big in college when there are a lot of distractions off the field that could lead to problems due to the players immense popularity on the campus.

The ACC this year has some very intriguing battles, some of which I will mention, but others that will develop from various factors in camp.

These are the top ACC position battles in spring practice, that I find to be the most interesting.
