Texas Longhorns

Again, another former powerhouse turned mediocre. Texas has been down for a few years now, and the Longhorns haven’t won a bowl game since 2012.

Charlie Strong was hired by the Longhorns after Mack Brown’s retirement in the winter of 2013. Prior to Strong’s arrival, the Longhorns were 30-21 since their last National Championship appearance. In Strong’s first season as the Longhorn’s head coach, Texas finished 6-7, with a loss to Arkansas in the Texas Bowl.

When Strong was hired away from Louisville, where he went 37-15 as the Cardinals’ head coach, he brought a lot of youthful hope to a Texas program that had slid away from national relevancy since their National Championship loss to Alabama in 2009.

However, Strongs’ Longhorns lost much hype when they were humbled by BYU early in the season. The Longhorns went on to play decent football in 2014, beating most of the teams that they should have. But, if you ask Longhorn fans, this season got about as bad as it could get, as the Longhorns dropped close games to Oklahoma and UCLA, while getting blown out by TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, and Arkansas.

So, what’s to expect this season? Do the Longhorns gain a step back to national relevancy? It all starts in the spring, and the Longhorns are desperate to get going, following an embarrassing loss to Arkansas in December.
