In light of Hampton Coach Edward Joyner calling Jesus for help against Kentucky, here are the Top 10 college football games that had divine intervention.
This was clearly the funniest thing to see on Tuesday. Hampton Coach Edward Joyner broke from coach speak and gave a straight up honest answer about beating Kentucky. His answer was given in this fashion:
And it’s true. It will take divine intervention, no “playing to our full potential” or “proving we belong” for Hampton to beat top-seeded Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. But hey, divine intervention has happened in all sports, and it raised the question for college football.

You know those games you watch where you say there had to be some sort of divine intervention? Well, they’re all over sports, and they are a huge deal in college football, a sport where every game has national title implications. Divine intervention could happen because of such a heavy underdog winning, which would be the case for Hampton, who opened in some places as a 29-point underdog to the Wildcats.
But it could also be because of the freak plays that happen in games or amazing comebacks that make you say, “This is meant to be.” We all have seen those games.
These games do not mean great finishes. Boise State’s upset over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl had everything to do with Chris Petersen calling the perfect trick plays and outcoaching Bob Stoops. You could explain how that happened. The same holds true for Texas-USC for the 2005 national title. And missed calls by referees in games don’t put teams on this list, because that is divine intervention, not human intervention.
So remember, Coach Joyner, nothing is impossible when a game starts. And we can prove it to you with some college football history.
