10. Ohio State Buckeyes

The fact that the team who won the national championship last year appears on this list shouldn’t be a surprise. The assertion that Urban Meyer is someone good at his job is also hard to dispute. But it wasn’t too long ago that Ohio State football came crashing down under a slew of NCAA violations.

Jim Tressel led the Buckeyes to three national championship appearances, and one win. But even before NCAA investigations marred his time as head coach, Tressel’s weaknesses were very much clear. He went 0-10 against the SEC, and had a three-game BCS bowl game losing streak until the Buckeyes finally managed to beat the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl.

The head coach before Tressel didn’t seem to do better when it came to consistency. John Cooper is credited with six very successful seasons at Ohio State, defined by records with wins in the double digits. But he’s also remembered for some embarrassing losing streaks: a 2-10-1 record against Michigan, a 5-year losing streak to Illinois, and a 3-8 record in bowl games.

At the rate Urban Meyer is going, he could very well be the best coach Ohio State’s had in recent history.
