Five-star cornerback Levonta Taylor committed to Florida State on Friday evening to give the Seminoles the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class for 2016.
Levonta Taylor picked the Florida State Seminoles over offers from Florida, Oklahoma, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State and Virginia, among others to give head coach Jimbo Fisher another five-star recruit to develop into a future college star.

Taylor (Virginia Beach, VA. Ocean Lakes) is the nation’s No. 19 ranked recruit overall, No. 2 cornerback and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Virginia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Florida State has had success in finding talent in that state and plucked five-star defensive end and one-time No. 1 overall prospect in the 2015 class, Josh Sweat from Chesapeake, VA. and Derrick Nnadi from Ocean Lakes high school in the 2014 class.
The 5-10, 170-pound defensive back made it official when he continued the pipeline of talent from the Virginia area to sunny Tallahassee at an announcement at his high school by donning a Seminoles jersey with his family at his side.
Taylor is the 13th commitment for Jimbo Fisher’s 2016 class and vaulted Florida State past the Miami Hurricanes for the nation’s No. 1 overall class.
He is the first cornerback to join the class and is the second five-star recruit for the class, joining IMG Academy’s Malik Henry who is the No. 8 recruit in the nation and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback.
Florida State is getting one of the more instinctual players in this year’s class and that should help his transition to the college game when he steps foot on campus next year and vie for playing time as a freshman. The Seminoles have produced some elite talent in the secondary in recent years and that should continue with Taylor arriving next season.
