College football is full of players who have etched their names in the history books, regardless of what they did at the next level.
And many of them deserve it.

But on top of going down in history, there’s another level certain college football players reach that is a larger than life status. And often times those spots are not deserved.
This is not to say these guys aren’t great players. But many times they get branded as the greatest college player ever.
Even worse, lots of these guys may not even deserve a place in the history books anyway.
As we look at college football players who have been overrated, this case has been more common recently given the way coaching systems maximize player stats. With that in mind, plenty of players have been able to shine since the turn of the century, and even a bit before the turn of the century, that never deserved the hype.
Often times, their NFL production proves it.
Either way, the criteria for these overrated players is not based on how much they underperformed in the NFL. That can simply be used as evidence. This is based on players who literally were not as good in college as they are made out to have been even today.
