3. Offensive Strategy

Last year the Gators’ offense was pathetic and ineffective, in order for them to succeed in 2015 that must change. McElwain has had a lost of past success running the pistol offense, which is different from the stagnant, pro-style offense the Gators used last year. It will be interesting to see what changes McElwain implemented to the playbook during the spring game.

I believe much of Florida’s offensive identity hinges on whoever wins the quarterback battle. Treon Harris is a perfect fit for McElwain’s pistol offense from Colorado State, and he is much more athletic than Garrett Grayson was. I think we will see more creative running plays from the pistol when Harris is in the game, and a much more pro-style approach when Will Grier is in.

The pistol utilizes a lot of inside zone and downhill running plays, which would be good for the running backs on the roster. Kelvin Taylor would be a perfect fit for this system, and is even considered a dark horse Heisman candidate by some.

The scheme could transform Florida’s offense into an efficient, effective unit. They have the players to make it work, it’s just up to McElwain to put the pieces together. It will be interesting to see if they unveil any new packages during the spring game.
